LinkedIn Marketing

Let’s take some time today to discuss the not-too-often talked about social media platform, LinkedIn. We know companies that swear by it and companies that have sworn it off. We also know many companies with successful social media strategies that have invested some of their online marketing time into the corporate social platform and have lived to tell the tale.

Are we going to tell you that you absolutely must be on LinkedIn? No. Are we going to tell you that it’s okay to ignore LinkedIn? Again, no. And here’s why:

A recent report by Investis IQ found that 64% of all corporate website visitors originated from LinkedIn. Let me repeat. More than two thirds of users coming to your corporate website from social media came from LinkedIn. That’s a pretty huge number and one that is almost impossible to ignore.

So now that you know LinkedIn is a heavy player, what can you do about it? We’re glad you asked! Below are a few of our top tips for making LinkedIn marketing work for you!

1. Use It or Lose It

That’s right, folks. The first step to making your LinkedIn work for your company is to actually get on the site and start using your Company Page. Start with the basics and make sure all of your information is accurate, that you have clear, descriptive, and enticing content, and that, of course, your website URL is featured. It also doesn’t hurt to display your company’s logo and several other branding graphics for extra oomph.

Next, start using your LinkedIn profile on a regular basis. It doesn’t have to be multiple times a day, and it doesn’t even have to be every singly day. But we recommend updating your company’s LinkedIn page at least once a week. Promote blog posts, chat up some discussion forums with Groups, and post interesting, relevant content you think your followers might enjoy. The more you use your LinkedIn account, the more potential it wields.

2.  Build Your Credibility

Did you know LinkedIn Company Pages has a “recommendations” feature built right in? Much like Yelp and Google Places, customers, clients, and vendors can log onto your page and review your services. This might sound a little scary, but as long as you monitor each recommendation and encourage satisfied clients to write rave reviews, you should be more than okay.

3. Make Connections

Ever heard the expression that it’s not what you know but who you know? LinkedIn can be a prime example of that fun little colloquialism because the connections you have on LinkedIn can really make or break your profile’s success. Not only should you be encouraging colleagues and contacts to follow your LinkedIn Company Page, join any Groups you might have created, and to comment on your posts, but you should actively be seeking new connections that can help you out. Think of this as building brand ambassadors that can market your company for you, even when you’re not there.

Helpful tip: post links that those users will find interesting, pose questions along with any content, and strike up conversations so you can get followers actively involved and willing to bring you a bigger audience.

LinkedIn isn’t a passing fad; sorry folks, the evidence just says otherwise. So now that you know how to handle the massive networking platform, I suggest you get over there today and start exploring all the opportunities it holds for you and your company!
